Your once-in-a-lifetime trip is booked! So what’s next? We think it’s never too early to piece together that bucket-list destination itinerary.
In the words of Will Smith.. Welcome to Miami!
Your first day in the Miami heat obviously means you’re heading straight to the beach, right? Whilst you walk up and down the boardwalk to find your perfect sunbathing spot, you’ll no doubt pass an array of colourful lifeguard huts - they make for a wonderful photo opportunity!
There’s a lot of history to soak up in South Beach, specifically in the city’s Art Deco district. You’ll find hundreds of the colourful, iconic buildings that were built between the 20s-40s. The best way to see it? Grab a bike!
If you only find the time to explore one place when visiting Miami, make it the Art Deco District. This definitely deserves a place on your list of things to do in Miami.
You can’t visit this pocket of the world without trying this Mexican staple. You’ll stumble across an abundance of Mexican-influenced eateries but we’ve highlighted a few that you might want to check out.
#1 Pink Taco
With their HQ based in LA, and other popular locations dotted across the continent, Miami locals already knew that Pink Taco was best known for its good vibes and Mexican-inspired munch. So when one opened on Ocean Drive, it was inevitable it would become one of the city’s foodie hotspots.
#2 Taco Taco South Beach
Even just the exterior of Taco Taco draws you in, making it the easiest decision when choosing the perfect break from the sun and a great place to grab some lunch. The hardest decision? Choosing between Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas or Nachos to accompany your margarita!
#3 Bodega Taqueria y Tequila
It’s a little known fact that these are some of the BEST tacos in the city. From the outside, this looks like your typical grab and go taco shop but what really tempts the tastebuds is the tequila and mezcal drinks to accompany them. The best part? They have a daily happy hour from 6-8pm where cocktails are a mere $6. Later on into the night you can enter the tequila lounge which has a live DJ.
If you’re one step ahead of us and have already checked out some of the things to do in Miami, you might be thinking “really?!” - bear with us! The touristy strip gets a bad rep because of its overpriced drinks so we don’t recommend pre-drinking here, but Ocean drive is Miami’s most iconic street and it’s been featured in a lot of films; a great place to people watch.
Turn down onto 14th and 16th street on Miami beach and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported. The vibes are chilled and the streets are lined with restaurants and cafés, all underneath little twinkling strings of lights. The perfect place to sit out and watch the world go by, and if you’re lucky, listen to live music. You’ve not fully experienced all the culture that this city has to offer until you’ve eaten Cuban food.
In true Miami-style, you’ve spent the night partying and when stumbling out of the club, hunger suddenly strikes.
#1 Big Pink
A bright pop-pink exterior and a classic 1950’s American Diner theme? Of course this restaurant is a popular Miami Beach favourite with bloggers and influencers alike, but take all that away and you’ll see that nothing hits the spot at 3am like Big Pink will. A day-time visit will give you the opportunity to snap a pic beside the iconic pink car in the sunshine, while a visit during the early hours is likely to ease that heavy head the next morning.
#2 La Sandwicherie
While some will say this is a hidden gem, we’ve been hearing a lot of whispers that this is the sandwich go-to in Miami. Opening hours are from 7am-5am, meaning that this spot can cure that post-party hunger in the early hours, or provide that life-saving hangover fix the morning after! Subway on steroids.
So you’re after some serious photo opportunities to create a bit of Insta-envy? Well, you’ve chosen the perfect destination. If colourful buildings, bright beach huts and alluring street art isn’t enough, we’ve got one more up our sleeve which is pretty unique.
The Museum of Ice Cream will certainly add something sweet to your itinerary. Indulge in sweet treats, tempting toppings and of course, a lot of ice-cream! Explore the multiple floors of interactive surprises and watch the likes flood in.
